Reservoir Station
Rail | Reservoir, VIC
Overview
The construction team at the new Reservoir station in Melbourne required a clean and safe access solution for their site office, which housed over 50 staff. To prevent the office from becoming muddy and to protect the grounds from erosion, a temporary footpath was installed using man-portable, interlocking composite mats.
Muddy Site Access
With over 50 people based in the site office, the high volume of foot traffic was causing significant issues. The path to the office was becoming eroding and muddy, leading to mess being tracked inside and creating unpleasant working conditions.
A solution was needed that could withstand the traffic for a year without degrading the underlying lawn or requiring constant maintenance.
Clean Pedestrian Pathway
JWA supplied man-portable, interlocking composite plastic matting to create a temporary footpath. This system was lightweight enough to be installed by hand but durable enough to handle the daily foot traffic.
The walkway provided a clean, stable surface that allowed workers to enter and leave the site without walking through mud, keeping the office clean and preserving the site's appearance.
Results
The installation of the temporary footpath successfully resolved the mud and erosion issues. For the duration of the 1-year project, the site office remained clean, and the grounds were protected from damage, demonstrating the effectiveness of the composite matting for pedestrian access applications.
