Naturform
Building | Clyde North, VIC
Overview
Naturform, a leader in urban landscape, was tasked with constructing a 167m boardwalk over a seasonal wetlands lake in a new housing development. Dura-Base mats were used to provide access to the marsh bed and create a stable platform for pouring concrete piers.
Wetland Access & Ground Conditions
The project required the construction of a boardwalk over a seasonal wetlands lake, which served as a natural ecological habitat and rainwater runoff management system. To build the boardwalk, concrete piers needed to be poured on-site.
Gaining access to the lake/marsh bed was a significant challenge. The water had to be isolated and drained, and the soft ground needed to be made competent to support construction machinery and activities.
Stable Construction Platform
Dura-Base composite mats were deployed to create a stable access road and working platform over the soft ground of the drained lake bed.
The mats provided a reliable surface that allowed machinery to reach the work area safely and perform the necessary construction tasks, such as pouring the concrete piers, without damaging the sensitive wetland environment.
Results
The use of Dura-Base mats enabled the successful construction of the 167m boardwalk and the surrounding landscaped area. The project provided local residents with access to the wetlands for recreation while preserving the ecological value of the site.
