Korobosea and Camp Moro

For 50 years, operations in this region of PNG relied on flying in heliportable sawmills to cut timber boards for access and flooring. This traditional method was logistically complex, time-consuming, and had a significant environmental footprint.

The project required a more efficient and sustainable solution to provide a stable base for the Moro base camp and the Korobosea rig site.

Dura-Base Composite Mats were introduced as a superior alternative to timber. They provided an immediate, solid footing for campsite flooring solutions and rig locations.

This innovation allowed local communities to support the project more effectively and ensured a clean, safe, and stable environment for the workforce and the drilling operations.

The use of Dura-Base mats was a resounding success, facilitating the completion of the drilling program in 2007. The shift away from timber proved so effective that over 80,000sqm of Dura-Base mats have since been brought into the country, marking a permanent improvement in operational standards.
