Dundonnell Wind Farm

Overview

Dura-Base provided access through sensitive and soft grounds along transmission line corridor for substation construction and powerline stringing works. The project showcased the versatility of composite matting in supporting major renewable energy infrastructure.

The Dundonnell Wind Farm Project

The Dundonnell Wind Farm Project is a $560M development with the capacity to generate 336MW and estimated to power 245,000 Victorian households per year.

Located 23km north-east of Mortlake, Victoria, the project is set to erect 80 Vestas wind turbines across 4,500ha, as well as the construction of 38km of transmission lines and a new substation.

Challenges faced:

  • Presence of indigenous and exotic vegetation along transmission line corridor.

  • Site home to Victoria’s endangered Brolga.

  • Accessing remote locations with various terrains including notorious buckshot soil.

  • Supporting heavy traffic from 4WDs, CFA piling rigs, steel tracked trenchers, and telehandlers.

  • Keeping valuable powerline stringing equipment and cable reels away from mud.

JWA's Solution

JWA provided over 11,000 sqm of temporary roadway and hardstands, including 2.5 linear kilometers of Dura-Base Composite Mats.

Dura-Base when interlocked, form a continuous stable surface to maximise work safe ground conditions while minimising impact to the environment.

Benefits

Need a long stretch of access in a hurry? Call us today, JWA has the largest fleet of heavy-duty composite mats available in Australia.
