Coochiemudlo Island

The main barge ramp at Coochiemudlo Island required replacement, posing a significant challenge to island access. The ramp is a critical link for residents, tourists, and essential services.

A solution was needed to maintain uninterrupted vehicular and pedestrian access to the island while the construction works were carried out on the main infrastructure.

Dura-Base Composite Mats were utilised to construct a temporary vehicular barge landing directly on the beach. The mats interlocking system created a stable, safe surface over the soft sand, capable of supporting vehicles coming off the barge.

This innovative solution allowed the barge to continue operations, dropping off residents, day-trippers, and the construction crew right on the beach, bypassing the worksite.

The temporary barge landing was a success, ensuring that life on Coochiemudlo Island continued with minimal disruption. The construction crew had reliable access to the site, and the local community and tourism were not negatively impacted. Once the new ramp was operational, the mats were easily removed, leaving the beach in its original pristine condition.
