Balmoral Park

The stormwater works were located on a corner of a busy intersection in Morningside, with the only access path going through Balmoral Park. Designated as a local heritage place, the park consists of cemetery grounds, a recreational reserve, and a memorial avenue of weeping figs.

The immediate challenge was to provide access for a tracked excavator without damaging the sensitive grounds, the public footpath, or the root systems of the heritage trees.

The solution was the installation of Dura-Base mats over the existing footpath to create a temporary roadway. The interlocking composite mats provided a 105mm protective layer, effectively distributing the weight of the excavator.

This method ensured that the risk of accidental ground rutting, damage to the public footpath, and impact on the critical tree roots was minimised, allowing the machinery to travel safely over the sensitive site.

The use of Dura-Base mats provided trusted ground protection, allowing the client to focus on the main scope of stormwater works. The temporary road was easily delivered and installed, maximising work time. Upon completion, the mats were removed, leaving the heritage park, footpath, and trees undamaged and preserving the site's significance.
