Australia Pacific LNG Project

The project required 14 months of geotechnical investigations across multiple locations. The ground conditions were extremely sloppy, often with soil strength in the range of single digit kPa.

The project spanned across all seasons, including the wet season. Key challenges also included daily tidal fluctuations which further complicated access and stability for the heavy drilling rigs.

Dura-Base mats were able to create a firm, stable platform for the geotechnical drilling rigs to access the extremely soft soils. The interlocking mats distributed the weight of the rigs, preventing them from sinking.

With over 100 core penetration tests required over multiple locations, the team needed to relocate and reposition the mats frequently. The lightweight and easy-to-handle nature of the mats made this process efficient and effective.

The use of Dura-Base mats enabled the successful completion of the geotechnical testing program. The drilling rigs were able to access all required locations safely and reliably, regardless of the soft ground or tidal conditions. The mats provided a versatile solution that kept the long-term project on track.
