Overview
Dura-Base oilfield mats created a safe work platform for Weatherford’s Rig 807 drilling operations in India. The unique movable rig subbase exerted extreme pressure of over 175,000 lbs per tire, which the Dura-Base composite system handled successfully.
Extreme Point Loading
Weatherford’s Rig 807 featured a unique movable rig subbase design that placed immense weight on the ground. The exerted pressure was calculated to be over 175,000 lbs per tire.
Finding a temporary matting solution capable of withstanding this extreme point loading without failure was critical for the safety and stability of the drilling operations.
Heavy Duty Platform
The Dura-Base composite matting system was selected for its superior strength and load-bearing capacity. It was tasked with creating a continuous, safe work platform for the heavy rig.
Following a successful test in NOV’s yard in Houston, where the system proved it could take the weight "like a champ", the rig package was deployed to India to conduct its planned program with Cairn Energy.
Results
The Dura-Base system performed exceptionally well in the field, providing a stable and secure platform for Rig 807 throughout the drilling program in India. The mats demonstrated their ability to handle extreme heavy lift applications where other solutions might fail.
