Overview

JWA safely delivered Dura-Base Composite Matting as the solution for rebuilding a substation site in Gin Gin without major resurfacing works. The mats provided on-demand stabilisation for a 30t piling rig despite heavy rainfall and a sandy clay subsurface.

High-Voltage Environment Challenges

The project objective was to rebuild a substation site in a high-voltage environment without undertaking major resurfacing works. This presented a significant challenge, further complicated by heavy rainfall on-site and a difficult sandy clay subsurface.

Traditional ground preparation methods would have been lengthy and costly, potentially disturbing the existing surface and requiring extensive remediation.

Temporary Ground Improvement

Dura-Base Composite Mats were deployed to provide temporary ground improvement. They offered on-demand stabilisation for the 30-tonne piling rig (SR30), creating a safe and stable working platform.

The reusable platforms supported multiple piling locations across the site. Being weatherproof, the mats were unaffected by the heavy rainfall, ensuring operations could continue without interruption.

Results

The solution successfully eliminated the need for lengthy ground preparations and remediations. The mats preserved the existing surface, and once the piling works were complete, they were removed, leaving the site in its original condition. The project was delivered safely and efficiently, meeting the client's objectives.
