Overview
The Sakhalin-2 oil and gas development in Russia required a reliable and portable composite matting system to facilitate the construction of an LNG plant. Dura-Base mats were used to create heavy lift access pads for self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) to move massive modules across sandy terrain in extreme weather conditions.
Extreme Conditions & Remote Location
The location on Sakhalin Island presented severe logistical and environmental challenges. With extremely harsh winters and hot summers, combined with the remote nature of the site, a robust solution was needed.
The terrain was predominantly sandy, creating difficulty for heavy transport. Moving heavy lift modules for the LNG plant required a surface capable of supporting SPMTs without sinking or failing.
Reliable Heavy Lift Access
Dura-Base Composite Mats were deployed extensively across the sandy terrain, from the beachfront landing area through to the LNG plant location.
The mats provided a reliable, interlocked platform that distributed the weight of the SPMTs and their heavy loads. This ensured safe and continuous access for the heavy lift operations throughout the lengthy construction phase.
